The first data on Intel Skylake processors models

Rumor has it that Broadwell and Skylake processors will enter the market almost simultaneously in the second quarter of 2015. Regarding the latest information, Skylake-S processors will be released at the same time as Intel 100 Series chipsets. According to the photo of Skylake processor on one of the Chinese resources, there are not so many innovations comparing to Haswell and Haswell Refresh models at the first sight.

About 20 round contact pieces, located in the gaps of Socket LGA1150 processors, were added. On one hand, the number of the rest stays the same, apparently, even if Skylake is installed into the new LGA1150 socket. However, on the other hand, it can be that there will be more contact pieces. Also, both hollows are placed a millimeter higher. Due to this, mechanical compatibility with Socket LGA1150 is impossible.

Two samples are meant here so far. The first processor operates on 2.3 GHz base clock; though, it increases up to 2.9 GHz in Turbo mode. The second one is characterized by 2.2 GHz base clock, which enhances to 2.4 GHz, while being in Turbo mode. The processor of 2.3 GHz base clock is equipped with Intel GT2 graphics engine, which the second model is deprived of.

The figures differ regarding TDP. The processor with Intel GT2 GPU has 95 W TDP; the one without graphics – 80 W. Both Skylake models possess DDR3 and DDR4 memory controllers. We are provided with early models, that’s why it is difficult to say, whether final Skylake’s CPUs will support two memory generations.

The new processors are expected to be introduced in the end of the second quarter of 2015. More likely, presentation of them will be shared with the one of Intel 100 Series chipsets. If it is really so, then the producers of motherboards, like ASRock, MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS, must be already working at the design of corresponding models.
