Hewlett-Packard (HP) in that shape we’ve got used to treat it for decades will soon be extinct. The company’s latest plans (as of early October, 2014) to split into two separate units by the end of 2015 are thought to result in the emergence of HP Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise. The first division will focus on the design of computers and printers, whereas the second one is to develop a high-potential cloud computing industry.

As of today, HP is a multinational information technology corporation with headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA, and more than 300.000 personnel. It has been considered to be the world’s largest PC maker since 2007.

The company’s name takes roots from its two co-founders: William Hewlett and Dave Packard. In 1939 these ambitious students started their own line of electronic test equipment in a small garage, having only $538 in initial capital investment. The current HP brand name was incorporated in 1947. The first HP’s custom sold inventions were oscillators, eight units of which came to the hands of Walt Disney Productions. In 1980 the company introduced its first personal computer.

Hewlett-Packard’s business is divided into three large units: PSG, IPG, and Software Division.

PSG or Personal System Group has recommended itself among the leading vendors of PCs and handheld devices. It produces business and consumer computers, Pocket PCs, digital entertainment items (MediaSmart Servers, MediaSmart TVs), and accessories.

IPG or Imaging and Printing Group takes leadership in imaging and printing segments, targeting as individual users, so small businesses and huge enterprises. Its inventory counts laserjet/inkjet/large-format printers, scanners, faxes, digital cameras, photo printers, Indigo Digital Press, as well as dedicated software suits.

Software Division specializes in the development of enterprise-management software packages HP Open View which involve business mobile apps, data analytics kits, enterprise security soft, application lifecycle management soft, automation and orchestration kit, etc.

In the end, Hewlett-Packard always takes care of environmental issues and sustainability. Therefore, in 2012 it established the first solar energy data center that runs on renewable sources rather than on traditional power grids.
