Flexible batteries by Samsung

Today, it is impossible to surprise anybody with flexible batteries. As it is known, a year ago, LG represented flexible batteries for mobile devices, taking the lead in the market of input power supply. However, Samsung has been working at such an innovation, too. As a result, Samsung SDI has introduced the batteries of a new type that are flexible enough to be bent into a ring. Unfortunately, as it often happens during such events, technical characteristics of the unusual element weren’t revealed at the premiere at InterBattery 2014 in Seoul.

Samsung assures that it is the battery that the world hasn’t seen before. They achieved a new type of flexibility due to applying innovative methods to the structure and using improved materials.

At InterBattery 2014, Samsung demonstrated batteries for mobile devices, bent batteries for smart watches and thin batteries for cards as well as cylindrical batteries 20 mm in length and 3.6 mm in diameter.

However, experts state that one should not cherish illusions about the practicality and advantages that flexible batteries may carry. This hardware element won’t become popular for a rather long time. Furthermore, its reliability is doubtful. So, it is fair to assume that despite nonsusceptibility of these batteries, their endurance leaves much to be desired.

It is reported that flexible batteries by Samsung will enter the market within next three years.
