Canon Cameras, Webcams & Scanners
Canon Inc. is the Japanese engineering company which headquarters are situated in Tokio, Japan. Its representative offices can be found all over the world; production capacities are concentrated in Taiwan and China with all equipment assembled exclusively in Japan. The Canon Group comprises about 200 companies that specialize in producing the range of technical equipment.
Canon Inc. originated from a small laboratory in 1933. Then, two young engineers (Goro Yoshida and Saburo Uchida) set their mind on creating such a camera that could compete with the German giants. To understand the mechanism of their functioning, they bought the samples of the German cameras for scrutinizing. The knowledge they got in such a way let the Japanese engineers create a totally unique and high-quality product, which was on a par with the world leaders in this sphere. However, at first the cameras used Nikkor objectives (today, it is Nikon, the main Canon’s competitor). This invention was called in honor of the Buddhist multiarm goddess of mercy – Kwanon. The camera became very popular and was considered to be one of the most outstanding Japanese inventions of those days. In 1935, the brand “Canon” saw the world.
Since 1955, Canon production has entered the world market. At the same time, the company got down to creating 8 mm camera. They suppose that this occasion marked the early days of the Japanese post-war economic miracle when household appliances and electronics from Japan began conquering the world.
1970s saw the series of NP copying machines based on a new electrographic system, ink-jet printers and laser printers with semiconductor lasers (Apple and Hewlett-Packard’s printers operate on this technology).
The first Canon’s digital camera came out in 1986. Even today, its technical characteristics are impressive.
In 2007, the corporation’s net sales increased by 7.8 percent (made 4481.3 billion JPY); net income – by 7.2 (came to 488.3 billion JPY). Canon managed to reach such brilliant results due to considerable investments into developments and investigations.
