ATI Technologies Inc. is the Canadian semiconductor company that focuses on creation of chipsets, video capture cards and graphic processing units. It was one of the most successful companies in this area since 1985 till 2006. Its headquarters are in Markham, Ontario, Canada.

In 1991, ATI publicly introduced the first video processor capable of processing graphic on its own; the help of CPU was not needed.

Since then, ATI produced the range of personal computer platforms, computer graphic chipsets, handheld chipsets, console graphic products, digital and multimedia products, etc.

AMD was founded by Jerry Sanders and his partners in 1969; they began as producers of integrated logic circuits. Then, its total budget made 100.000 dollars.

AMD’s strategic partners in the market of PC are Dell, Acer, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Fujitsu Technology Solutions.

The main competitors for AMD remain Intel (processors and chipsets production) and NVidia (graphic processors production). According to the data of 2010, AMD’s discrete video cards market share made 51 percent comparing to NVidia’s 49 percent. It was the first time it was left behind. AMD’s integrated graphics market share also increased making 24.5 percent. However, here AMD surpassed only NVidia (19.8 percent), not Intel (54.3 percent).
