Acer
Acer Inc. is the Taiwan computer company that specializes in developing and selling computer workstations, software and corresponding elements. Its trade areas are Europe, the Americas and Africa; and main manufacturing forces are situated in Taiwan, the USA and Europe.
Acer Incorporated is only the part of the Acer Group. The whole Group consists of several markets and companies among which are HiTrust, Weblink, Sertek, Apacer, TWP, Lottery Technology Services. Apart from producing IT devices, they develop e-business services and solutions, information storage systems, servers, digital projectors, plasma displays, monitors, repair Acer products, etc.
In 1970s, Stan Shih, the founder of the Acer Company, created the Multitech International Company; its total budget amounted to 25,000 US dollars and the whole company’s staff included just five people.
Those times have been left behind long since. Today, the company is on the list of ten the most popular and successful companies in its sphere in the world. Its staff makes up about 6,000 workers; and its gross revenue in 2013 was 19 billion dollars.
Having become more confident, Acer bought several companies that were among the best in mini-computers developing and producing (Counterpoint Computers; San Jose, California), semiconductor industry (Texas Instruments. Together with Acer, they launched production of memory chips), multiuser systems production (Altos Computer Systems). Besides, to Acer belong now eMachines (since 2007), Packard Bell, Gateway and E-Ten Information Systems.
Today, Acer competes with Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Dell Inc., NEC Corp. in producing and marketing computers (notebooks, desktops, personal digital assistants, tablets) and displays (plasma displays, projectors, monitors (CRT and LCD).
